Ingredients

  • 6 veal kefta Fontaine Family
  • 4 regular size 8’’ naan bread
  • 30 ml (2 Tbsp) extra-virgin olive oil
  • butter as needed for the crust

Tomato Sauce

  • 500 ml (2 cups) tomato coulis “purée”
  • 180 ml (¾ cup) water
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 15 ml (1 Tbsp) cumin
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) paprika
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) dried oregano
  • 10 ml (2 tsp) white sugar
  • 2.5 ml (½ tsp) cayenne pepper
  • 60 ml (¼ cup) fresh coriander, chopped (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 500 ml (2 cups) shredded pizza cheese
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • baby spinach and/or arugula leaves as needed
  • chopped fresh coriander and/or crushed nacho chips as needed (optional)
  • your favourite toppings of choice

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C).
  2. Combine all the ingredients for the tomato sauce in a saucepan, stir and simmer for 20 minutes.over medium-low heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let cool and set aside for use later.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Then add the veal kefta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, crumbling them with a wooden spoon. Stirring frequently.
  4. Arrange naan bread on a baking sheet and brush the crust with butter.
  5. Add 1 cup of tomato sauce to the cooked kefta mixture and mix well.
  6. Top naan bread with spinach leaves or arugula, kefta mixture, cheese and your choice of toppings.
  7. Bake in oven at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. (Bake the pizza on middle rack of the oven.) Broil for an additional 1-2 minutes to brown the crust, being careful not to burn the toppings.
  8. Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh coriander and nacho chips (optional).

Tomato coulis makes a thicker and smoother.sauce than canned crushed tomatoes. If you don’t.use the entire sauce recipe, you can freeze the.excess in small freezer bags.
You can also garnish your pizza using your favourite toppings.
Veal kefta can also be used as a substitute for ground beef in your classic nachos, chili or taco recipes.
