  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) cumin
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) paprika
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) dried oregano
  • 10 ml (2 tsp) white sugar
  • 2.5 ml (½ tsp) cayenne pepper
  • 60 ml (¼ cup) fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Garnish

  • 500 mL (2 cups) grated pizza cheese
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • baby spinach and / or arugula leaves as needed
  • chopped fresh cilantro and / or chopped nacho chips as needed (optional)
  • your favorite toppings of choice

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 ° F (176 ° C).
  2. Put all the ingredients for the tomato sauce in a saucepan, mix and simmer for 20 minutes over medium-low heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let cool and set aside for later use.
  3. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the keftas and cook, 8 to 10 minutes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Stir frequently.
  4. Place the naan breads on a baking sheet. Spread the crust with butter.
  5. Add 1 cup tomato sauce to the cooked kefta mixture and mix well.
  6. Top naan bread with spinach or arugula leaves, kefta mixture, cheese and your toppings of choice.
  7. Bake at 350 ° F for 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. (The baking sheet position should be in the middle of the oven.) Broil for an additional one to two minutes to brown the crust, being careful not to scorch the toppings.
  8. Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and nacho chips (optional).

Tips and Tricks

Tomato coulis helps create a thicker, smoother sauce than canned crushed tomatoes. If you are not using the entire sauce recipe, you can freeze the excess in small freezer bags.
You can also decorate it with your favorite toppings.
Veal kefta can also be used as a ground beef substitute in your classic nachos, chili, or taco recipes.
